Frequency Awareness Newsletter ArticleSound Part OneSound is generated as the vibratory motion of particles and objects. The vibrations that manifest as sound portray an energy, a sonic vibrational pattern, that is found throughout nature- not only within ourselves and our world, but far beyond, into the realms of moon, stars and the cosmos. The vibrational patterns of sound possess the key to understanding the patterns of manifestation and organization of matter in the physical universe. As scientists and healers begin to understand the relationship between the vibrational patterns of sound and the inner structure of matter, they will harness them by tapping into a whole new universe of ideas and applications of energy for healing and technology. Due to the limitations of human physiology, our own ears can only detect an infinitestimal fraction of the vast vibratory spectrum. On the cosmic scale, sound is a universal, unseen power, able to bring about profound changes on many levels; physical, emotional and spiritual. Sound is among the most transformative and recuperative emotional healing energies on the planet. It can relax us and make us tranquil, or move us to great heights of passion. Sound can restore balance and harmony to our lives. Conversely, sound also has the ability to adversely affect us and bring our already stressed out vibratory rates to new levels of imbalance, disease and disharmony. What is the difference in the sounds that makes us feel balanced, centered and at peace and those that distress us? Sound can affect us on all levels, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Beneficial sounds for us are often sounds that we consider "sacred". These sounds seem to have the ability to energize, renew, centre and harmonize us. There are reasons for this. Knowledge of sound as a therapeutic and transformative power is very old. The Ancient Mystery Schools of Greece, Rome, Egypt, Tibet, China and India had great knowledge of sound as being the primary creative force in the universe. The ancients knew what the modern physicists now understand, that all is in a state of constant vibration. The world is sound, these ancients mystics proclaimed and indeed it would appear to be so. Let us examine the basic tenets of many of the spiritual paths of the world: we will find a commonality in them. They all share the belief that world was created through sound. Here are but a few examples. In Genesis, from the Old Testament, one of the first statements is, "And the Lord said "Let there be light!". In St. John from the New Testament, it is written, "In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God." From Vedas of the Hindu trandition come the writing that, "In th beginning was Braham with whom as the Word. And the Word is Brahman." The Ancient Egyptians believed the God "Thot" created the world by his vice alone. In the Popul Vuh, from the Myan tradition, the first real men are given lifeby the sole power of the word. The Hopi Indians' story of creation tells of the animation of all forms on earth by having the "Spider Woman" sing the "Song of Creation" over them. Ancient Celtic tradition describes the relvelation of the "Word" to the "Son of the Three Shouts" (A Seer) as forming all life. Many of us know of Pythagoras as the father of geometry. However, how many are aware that in the 6th century BC in Greece he had a school that taught not only the magic of numbers, but the healing powers of music? Pythagoras taught of the Music of the Spheres and the movement of the heavenly bodies could be perceived and reflected in the intervals of plucked strings. Another ancient system associating musical notes with subtle-energy systems of the body is the Five Element Theory of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. The Chinese model views Earth and the human body in terms of the five elements of creation, which are earth, water, fire, wood and metal- each as a corresponding sound. Today in the West, much of this ancient knowledge has all but vanished. However, we are now in the process of rediscovering that lost wisdom and adding to it through information and understanding obtained from modern science. Perhaps the most profound scientific work showing the power of sound to affect shape and form was researched by Dr. Hans Jenny, a Swiss medical doctor and scientist who spent ten years of his life examining the effects that sound had on shape and formation. Jenny photographed plastics, pastes, liquids, powders, and other substances as they were being vibrated by sound. The results of these experiments are truly awe-inspiring, for they show extremely organic shapes being created from inorganic substances merely by exposing them to different sound frequencies. In his book, "Cymatics", Dr. Jenny wrote, "Now it is beyond doubt that, where organization is concerned, the harmonic figures of physics are, in fact, essentially similar to the harmonic patterns of organic nature...we have the certain experience that harmonic systems such as we have visualized in our experiments arise from oscillatins in the form of intervals and harmonic frequencies. That is indisputable." According to Dr. Jenny, harmonious shapes and harmonic frequencies are interrelated. Through Jenny's experiments and research we have proof that different sounds create different forms. This phenomenon is one of the asic principles of healing with sound, the principle of "resonance". Modern physics has verified that we are all vibrating atomic and sub-atomic particles. Everything as a resonant frequency, the frequency at which it most naturally vibrates, from the chair you may be sitting on to the computer you are reading this article from. Every part of your body also has a resonant frequency. Correctly applied sound could bring about cures by restoring the musical integrity of the body and soul. Music can bypass the mind's logical and analytical filters, to make direct contact with profound feelings and passions deep in the memory and imagination. This in turn, produces physical, psychological and spiritual reactions.
